Duke of Edinburgh 1921 – 2021
17th March 2020
Regrettably the decision has been taken (due to the Coronavirus situation) to close the Day Centre for the time being. We will endeavour to keep in close contact with our clients whilst the Government restrictions are in place and we will post updates as appropriate, via Facebook.
23rd May 2019
Hockley Parish Council are pleased to support the Centre with fund raising throughout the year, by assisting with some of their events and enabling them to provide refreshments at the monthly Village Market. At the Annual Parish Meeting in May 2019 the Parish Council presented the Centre’s Chairman. Ian Foster and Vice Chairman Carol Warren with a cheque for £5000 by way of a grant towards their refurbishment programme.
The variety of services offered would not be possible without the tireless support of the many volunteers. Additional volunteers are constantly sought to help within the office, kitchen, dining / coffee bar area or on the mini bus.
If you are interested in helping the ongoing operation of the Centre in any way, please contact them on 01702 206208; email email@example.com or better still pop in for a cup coffee.

We Need Your Help
15 November 2018 ·
The Hockley and Hawkwell Social Centre for the Older Person is an essential facility to help local older residents to counter loneliness and provide nutritious home cooked meals. We will be embarking upon an extensive refurbishment plan to ensure the Centre is completely fit for purpose and can continue to provide an excellent community service for the next 25 years.
The plan will be tackled in phases with the aim of completing implementation over the next 2/3 years. The timescale will be driven by the success of any fundraising necessary to implement the plan, as well as the level of voluntary assistance (the plan will only be carried out outside of normal operating hours to avoid any inconvenience).
We will make maximum use of any voluntary assistance to reduce costs wherever possible. If you are able to assist in any way please contact Phil Smith on 07979 800854.
The plan is to incorporate the following phases:
- installation of automatic sliding doors to the front entrance providing easier access for all levels of disability.
- redecoration of all bathroom facilities and new facilities to be installed within the men’s bathroom to match the recently installed ladies facilities.
- complete redecoration and refurbishment of the Reception area, Office and Storage area.
- complete redecoration of the dining area and implementation of a new tea bar and service area. Installation of new flooring, curtains, blinds and furniture to ensure a pleasant, warm, comfortable and inviting area.
- redecoration of kitchen and food storage area together with replacement appliances (oven, hob, etc.), as required.
We would ask that if you or your family/friends are able to help with any charitable donations or are considering any sponsored activity, that they consider donating to this worthy cause. No donation is too small.
We will soon be setting the charity up within Facebook to allow donations to be made that way. In the meantime, please contact us on: firstname.lastname@example.org or 01702 206208 or pop in for a coffee.
We can be found in the Library Car Park, Southend Road, Hockley, SS5 4PZ
